Abstract

The following article is a research on the narration known as "Seven Letters" which is dedicated to the issue of the revelation of the Qur'an in seven letters. Popular scholars have accepted the narration of the revelation of the Qur'an in seven letters and have given various meanings for "letters". Some contemporary scholars of the Imamiyya claim that the narration of the seven letters has been transferred from public sources to the Imamiyya and therefore do not accept its basis. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct genealogical research in this direction in order to make a new re-research on the origin and roots of the narrations of the seven letters. According to the present study, the first creator of this narration is Umar ibn al-Khattab, who in his intellectual construction, ie ijtihad against the text, considered it permissible to consider differences in readings or other cases of verbal differences in the Qur'an and made such an attribution to the Prophet. Also, the narration of Sheikh Saduq in Shiite sources is not acceptable due to the weakness of the document and the similarity of the text with other narrators of his narration in public sources.
