The divine will in the “purification” and “removal of impurity” from the Ahlul Bayt is the central message of verse 33 of Surah Al-Ahzab. There is a difference of opinion among exegeses regarding the scope of the meaning of “impurity” (rijs) and “purification” (tathir), which is why an independent study has been conducted to clarify the precise meanings of these two concepts. The purpose of this research is to determine the meanings of these words in the context of the verse of purification, to understand the range of legitimacy regarding the actions and words of the Ahlul Bayt, and to explore the issue of their voluntary purification. Through analyzing the context of words, verses, and narrations, this article demonstrates that the meaning of “impurity” in this verse extends beyond all deficiencies and includes any act, belief, word, or characteristic that is considered undesirable by common sense, intellect, religion, or nature. There is no distinction between what is haram (forbidden), makruh (discouraged), or a matter of neglect, and whether this act is intentional or forgetful. Additionally, based on the grammatical structure in the verse and a new interpretation, the precise meaning of “removal of impurity” is seen as an act of divine prevention and hindrance from the outset. One significant point in the language of the verse is the usage of “ذهب” (dahaba) in the form of the verb “bab ifa’al” (the verb-form that implies an action causing a result) with the preposition “a’n”, which implies prevention and the blocking of any impact from the very beginning. This article addresses the conceptualization of impurity and purification in the verse of purification in two parts.
