The collection of fabricated hadiths and the identification and differentiation of them from authentic sources can greatly assist in preserving the integrity of narrations from distortions and misinterpretations. However, the absence of accurate and precise criteria, along with occasional subjective and biased approaches, has led to the misclassification of many correct or weak hadiths as fabricated. Ibn Jawzi, in his book Al-Mawdu'at (The Fabricated Hadiths), overstates the issue of fabrication or suspicion of certain narrators, labeling numerous narrations as false, even when other valid chains of narration or compatible contents exist. Among these is the narration from Al-A'mash, which discusses the virtue of Imam Ali (AS) in the context of the verse “Throw into Hell” (Al-Qiya fi Jahannama). Ibn Jawzi dismisses this hadith solely due to the presence of a specific narrator in the chain, without considering the other multiple chains and the consistent themes of similar narrations. This paper aims to examine the sanad (chain of transmission) and matn (content) of the narration, arguing against its classification as fabricated, and strengthening the interpretation that the address “throw” in the verse refers to the Prophet Mohammad (P) and Imam Ali (AS).
