The most important task of ʿilm al-rijāl (biographical evaluation) is narratology. The recognition of the narrator is sometimes possible with special reliabilities and sometimes with the help of the general rules of the scholars of al-rijāl. In order to overcome the lack of data in the field of narratology, Shiites and Sunnis have turned to the reconstruction of general rules known as general reliabilities. This papaer seeks to answer this question: What are the most important common reliabilities among the al-farîqayn (the two parties)? And what are the similarities and differences between Shia and Sunni in this regard? And what is the opinion of prominent Shia and Sunni thinkers about each of the reliabilities? This article was created with the library method and the descriptive-analytical and research method. In this research, we found that there are three types of general reliabilities among the al-farîqayn: the first type of reliabilities is common between Shia and Sunnis, such as the reliabilities of narrators of books, the reliabilities of the Infallibles’s companions, and the second type of reliability is specific to Shia, such as the companions of the ʾiǧmā (consensus), the advocacy of the narrator, the elders of the permission, multiplication of narrations, the elders of reliable, to mercy and satisfied, and the third part of reliabilities are specific to Sunnis and do not have the necessary effect on Shiite’s al-rijāl, such as al-taʿdīl (accrediting) the narrators of the first three centuries, al-taʿdīl the famous narrators, the occurrence of the narrator in the chain of isnad of Ṣaḥīḥ (authentic) hadith, to boycott the narrator even though it is subject to discrediting, to narrate a reliable narrator from an unknown narrator and the reliability of an obscure person. As a result, the number of general reliabilities is much more comprehensive in the Shia’s al-rijāl, although the people who say the general reliabilities are different and are often not accepted by the Uṣūl scholars and are mostly accepted by the Shia Akhbarists.
