The subject of the nature, constitution and creati of human beings is one of the issues that have been addressed in the narrations. The Shīʿa and ʿAdliyya (i.e. the Muʿtazilah), on the one hand, believe in the rational basis of good and evil and insist on human choice and free will while on the other hand, they are faced with a series of traditions and narrations that speak of predetermination and the limitations of human beings. The apparent meaning of these traditions suggest that God has created human beings with different natures and from the very beginning, the nature of some is heavenly while others have a hellish nature that would lead them to perdition. For this reason, scholars and luminaries have come up with various solutions to this problem. The present study based on the traditions analyzes these solutions, and comes to the conclusion that by studying these narrations one realizes that the differences in the nature of human beings is something natural, and inevitable in the system of creation, and the differences arising from the variant natures which have been highlighted in the narrations are not such that they would deprive a person of his free will. Rather, its role in final fate, and his [preordained] nature, is limited to what is essential, not more than that.
